Empowering Latinas: Female Education, Financial Awareness Is Shaping Houston’s Future

Thank you to CW39’s anchor Sharron Melton, for bringing awareness to the community about the work Power On Heels Fund, Inc. is doing to help Latinas close the wage gap and become more financially empowered.

The interview with Power On Heels Fund, Inc. founder and CEO, Ivette Mayo, provided an opportunity to share our organization’s mission and programs, which assist Latinas in becoming their own best advocates in the marketplace.

This interview also highlighted the fact that the future workforce of Houston is set to be significantly influenced by the increasing educational attainment of women, particularly as they continue to outpace men in obtaining college degrees. The information from DataUSA reveals that in 2022, 58.1% of students enrolled in Houston were women, while only 41.9% were men. This gender disparity is even more pronounced among Hispanic students, with 60.2% of enrolled students being women compared to 39.8% men.
